The coronavirus pandemic has changed so many things for me. My season will likely be canceled, as well as practices. I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on this. Instead of feeling bad about the situation I’ve chosen to stay fit, practice drills, eat healthy, and supplement my studies.
During my freshman season, with no prior track & field experience, I earned my varsity letter and tied for 5th in the state of California for the top freshman pole vaulters. I have also achieved a 3.6 GPA so far. I’ve developed a passion for track & field now and have set new goals for myself. I’d like to vault 11’6” my junior year, while keeping my grades up and will work hard to achieve this. I know I can do it because I have confidence in my abilities and study habits and have one of the best high school coaches in the state, Tom Martin. With my drive and his skill and knowledge of the sport I will achieve my goals and set myself up for success in college.
I am now ranked 28th in California and 108th in the US. My trajectory is up to me. Sadly my Dad passed away a few months ago from cancer. He was a decathlete during his college years. Before he passed away he gave me valuable advice about my education, sports, competing in high school and college and life in general. I have his legacy motivating me every day now to achieve my goals. I am making the best out of a situation that isn’t ideal and will continue to thrive.
