Personal Statement

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed about competing at a high level and running for my dream university. I want to represent myself, my family, and of course, my university well. With many goals in mind,  I understand that receiving an athletic scholarship is very difficult but is obtainable.  I started to write down my goals and have them posted on the walls of my bedroom. Every day before I would leave for school, I would look at my goals and after school, when at practice, I remembered what I wanted and what I needed to do to get there. I believe I have the work ethic to run for my dream university and compete at a high level. I am willing to give up my time for my sport and sacrifice what is needed to get to where I want to be. I understand I am a student before I am an athlete and my education is very important to me. I manage my time well and I’m involved in many extracurricular activities, while obtaining all A’s in each of my classes. I strive to be better than I was yesterday and to work for the things I want. In the next few years, I hope to see my times drop and one by one, being able to check off my goals and set new personal records. Running started off as a hobby but quickly became a passion of mine. It is what I look forward to in my days and without a doubt, would love to run at the college level. I get along with others and push my teammates to improve their times, and hopefully help encourage them to reach any of their goals. I hope you enjoy learning more about me and the type of person I am. I hope to someday represent a university here in my country and make an impact somehow in this world. Thank you.

-Kaley Cardenas
