Personal Statement

Hi, I am a distance runner from Santa Clarita, California.  I currently attend Saugus High School, class of 2017 after transferring from Valencia High School after the fall semester of 2014.  I am on the Varsity Cross Country and Track Team.

I began running in middle school, as a competitive swimmer who wanted to improve my swim times and joined the Storm Track Club.  My first year in cross country I took 6th at AAU Cross Country National Championships.  I continued to both swim and run competitively and used those abilities to transition into triathlons.

I continued to swim, run and compete in triathlons during my freshman year of high school at Valencia High.  As a freshman at Valencia High School, I ran for the Cross Country and Track Team and gained a lot of experience as a Varsity runner.  I set the freshman course record at the Seaside Cross Country Invitational and set the school records for all Valencia cross country races, including Mt. San Antonio College and Woodward Park.  In track, I set the school record for the 3200.  I also became an All American with USA Triathlon and was ranked 9th in the U.S. in my age group.

As a sophomore at Valencia High School, I ran Woodward Park with a time of 18:25.  I transferred to Saugus High School for the spring semester of 2015 and began to focus solely on running.  Due to CIF transfer rules, I was not allowed to compete on the varsity team.  As part of the Junior Varsity team I ended my season with:

800: 2:19         1600: 5:02     3200: 11:03

As a junior at Saugus High School, I was a member of the CIF D2 State Championship team at Woodward Park, finishing 7th with a time of 17:52, making All-State.  I was named Most Outstanding Runner at Saugus and SCV Runner of the Year.

MT Sac Time: 18:01    Woodward Park Times: 17:52

I just finished my Junior Track Season after Qualifying for CIF prelims.

800: 2:19    1600: 5:02    3200: 10:56

In addition to my running, I enjoy the outdoors.  I enjoy camping, fishing and backpacking.  I have backpacked the John Muir Trail and other portions of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California.
