Hi my name is Daisy Ramirez, I am currently a Senior at Upland High School. I’m looking for a college that would allow me to participate in a team environment using my athletic skills but also fulfilling my educational goals towards the medicine profession. Describing a little about myself, I am persevering, energetic, and in my eyes the sky is the limit. I have experience with cross country and long-distance running. My newest thrill is participating in pole vault. For the last two seasons we worked hard and this season, I accomplished to reach number one in my division so far. Our team is looking great this season, some of our new jumpers have accomplished PRs and its been very rewarding for me. I find joy in helping my teammates improve their skills.
Some of my extracurricular activities include being a member of the Pomona health career ladder at Western University. This is a program designed to prepare students for the medical field. I have attended since the sixth grade and its really helped me visualize the pathway to becoming a physician some day. Moreover, I am a certified Jr lifeguard. My last two summers have consisted of intense training through the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Division. This program has helped me gained the necessary skills for cardiac resuscitation, critical thinking, and people skills.
Furthermore, my Freshman year in high school, I joined the Health program which gave me an in depth idea of what the medical profession is like. There, I realized why exactly I want to be a doctor. The need for doctors is so great and I realized that my skills and experiences can make a difference in helping many in need. With great luck, I had a great opportunity to attend the National Leadership Youth Forum in Medicine at the UCLA campus for 10 days, there I experienced what life as a resident is like and gained many clinical skills. I also had the opportunity to get some experience in the medical profession volunteering to help my mom, a Kaiser Permanente Nurse. There, I had the chance to observe physicians and realized how valuable the communication between doctors and patients is. Also, I observed how effective it is to work as a team, I also noted some excellent physicians serving people from different backgrounds, but I also saw there is so much more that can improve.
I’d like to thank you in advance, for considering me as a candidate to be part of your team. I am enthusiastic to hear from you.
Graciously,
Daisy Michelle Ramirez
