I have been running and competing in track since I was 8 years old. Track has taught me so many things like how to persevere through adversity and given me a, "don't quit" mindset when things get hard. When I first started running I was extremely shy and fearful. Over the years, track has given me a sense of pride and identity that truly has built up my self confidence. I have two younger siblings that now run track after following my lead. This has shown me that I can inspire the next generation to do positive things with their life.
When I was in the 5th grade I placed third (Bronze) overall in the 400m, 200m and 100m at the outdoor West Coast Junior Olympics in Nevada. My freshman and sophomore year of high school was successful where I qualified to run both run years in individual and team relays at the state championships. For 3 years running I have been apart of a HS school relay team that went 1st place in the 4x200 where I ran second leg, and I finished within the top 8 finals in my individual races. Indoor of my sophomore year I qualified to run at Nationals qualifying in the top 8 finals in both the 200 and 55meters.
I feel like I am unique to other recruits because of my strong values, character and resilience. I have learned that along with track, having a strong academic profile is equally as important. I am the second oldest child in my family and being a child of parents who are Pastors of a homeless outreach center, I was raised serving and supporting those less fortunate. Seeing individuals that are homeless and coming to the shelter day after day has given me a greater appreciation for the basic things in life. I have come to never take anything for granted, work hard to keep earning your spot and appreciate what I have.
