Hello! My name is Emma Sidman and I am currently a junior at the Lovett School in Atlanta, GA. Ever since I began running in middle school, being a collegiate track and cross country athlete has always been a dream of mine and I intend on making this dream come true.
As a freshman, cross country season was a time for me to get acclimated to the rigorous training that came with being a varsity athlete. However, track season, everything began to click and I could see my training begin to pay off. As a freshman, I qualified for the AA finals at state in the 800m and ran for a 7th place finish with a time of 2:26, and making the all state team. Additionally, my team was crowns AA state champions.
After a rigorous summer of training going into my sophomore year, I truly began to see a difference in my times. I managed to drop 2 whole minutes off of my time from freshman year when I ran a 19:35. At state, I came in 15th place and my team won state for AA. We also repeated as AA state champions in track that year as well.
Now as a junior, I am taking my training more seriously than ever as college in only a year away. This cross country season I placed 6th at both region and state earning all-region and all-state honors. My team also repeated as AA state champions. This track season I was able to qualify for the state meet in the 1600m, 3200m, and 4x400m. I earned 3rd place honors in the 3200m directly after running the preliminary rounds of the 4x400m. Additionally, I placed 6th in the 1600m, and my 4x400m team came in 6th as well. Consequently, I received first-team all-state honors as well for those three events. My performance at state also gained me enough attention to be invited to the prestigious Georgia Meet of Champions, where state champions in each event across all classifications received automatic bids, leaving the empty spots to be filled by those who the meet directors deemed had worthy races. Although I am unable to compete in it due to a previous conflict with my summer schedule, it was still an incredible honor!
Looking forward to senior year, I have goals to run significant PRs in cross country as well as on the track. I have begun my summer training and intend to run about 500 miles this summer using an individualized schedule created for me by my coach with intent of achieving my goals.
A quick additional note is that as a freshman I was on our 4x800m team and ran the 800m leg of the DMR which both hold school records from those races.
I am an extremely dilligent and hard worker, and am not afraid to be pushed. I give 110% inside and outside of the classroom. My studies and training are important to me, but I also make time to volunteer at a therapudic horseback riding program over the summer, babysit, and be a counselor at a sports camp. I like to set a good example to my younger teammates and that shows as I have been elected co-captain for next year's cross country season.
I am looking for a school that will push me both academically and athletically.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my profile.
