Over the course of this year, my goals on the track are to improve my start off of the blocks, to set new PR’s, and to be a better teammate and leader each day.
In order to maximize my personal progress, this fall I traveled to the UVa Speed Clinic and met with their Senior Exercise Physiologist, Max Prokopy. He educated me about correct running form, proper strength and conditioning training, and the importance of nutrition, hydration, and rest. I have continued to follow the training program he provided and look forward to competing smarter as a senior.
My track coach, JP Weaver, is also my mentor. He has been instrumental in my character growth by providing guidance and leadership training, all while holding me accountable as a student leader. I have received the Lion’s Award, demonstrating leadership and being coachable. I would not be where I am today without his teaching and direction.
I also work hard in the classroom. I attend extra study sessions and meet with my teachers to ask questions. My academic accomplishments are just as important to me as my track accomplishments. Over this past fall semester I have increased my GPA from 3.6 to 3.7.
My collegiate goals are to compete for a successful track program and contribute to its success wherever I am needed. I also plan to obtain my bachelor of science degree in nursing, then pursue becoming a nurse practitioner by obtaining my master’s degree.
