Montessori education focuses on molding students to possess several key personality traits that includes having a strong sense of self, an ability to connect with others, and the desire to be productive throughout their lives. I was a Montessori school student from preschool through fifth grade. Montessori taught me the importance of community, personal drive, and face challenges with an open mind. It was my decision to transition to public school. When I transitioned, grades became important to me because I had never had them before. I tell my parents that I like the way A’s look on a report card better than any other letter.
I was definitely born with a competitive spirit. I began competitive tumbling and trampoline gymnastics at age 5, until I discovered track in the sixth grade. My focus shifted from competing at the national level in gymnastics to the national level in track. I am focused, determined, and dedicated. I am also a member of the competitive dance team at my high school. Being a multiple sport athlete that also focuses on maintaining straight A's requires perseverance and excellent time management skills. I am a goal orientated person and truly love to be challenged. When I am challenged my competitive spirit kicks in.
I believe that leadership should not be solely based on personal accomplishments. How a person addresses a problem, helps others achieve their goals, and the display of good moral and ethical characteristics are what shape a true leader. Based on that belief, I view myself as a leader and a supportive teammate. My dream is to compete at the collegiate level for track. I work daily, in the classroom, gym, and on the track to make my dream a reality. I would be an asset to any team.
