Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Mia Alaina Maglaya and I am currently a senior at Romeoville High School, and I have partaken in Track & Field for 6 years. Ever since I ran my first race and jump I fell in love with both the physical demand and mental challenges of Track. In addition to Track & Field, I also participate in Powerlifting, Sideline/Competitive Cheerleading, and previously I competed in USAG gymnastics for 11yrs. Sports have taught me countless lifelong valuable lessons, and throughout the years of training to improve my athletic abilities, it has been my goal to compete at the collegiate level of athletics. I understand the substantial amount of dedication, work, commitment, and willpower needed to succeed. Thus, I plan to do everything I possibly can to make my ambitious goal a reality.

In the classroom, I value being a student before an athlete taking almost all Honors and AP courses throughout high school aided me in achieving 10% of my class, and the acknowledgment of an AP Scholar. Additionally, I am very involved in my community and school serving in Leadership, National Honor Society, student council, and various other positions of leadership and service.

In the gym, I take pride in my lean strength being sub 115lbs and having a 315lb deadlift, a 120lb power clean, and a 220lb squat. I always try to set an example and strive for those around me to succeed. On my team, I am my teammate's #1 fan and always try to be a positive motivation and aid to my teammates and coaches. Along with that, my personality leaves me very coachable whilst having a desire for criticism to utilize in becoming a better student-athlete. My work ethic and ability to apply corrections are what I am known for both on the field and in the classroom.

I hope to attend a college where I can continue to challenge myself academically and athletically. I am open to all options that may arise and certainly hope to find the college that is the best fit for me. With all being said my ultimate goal is to perform and compete at the highest possible level to fulfill my potential and be a positive impact on all those around me and the college I choose.
