Audrey O'Connor- ...My name is Audrey O’Connor and I am a thrower from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I was born in Detroit, Michigan, and live in Windsor, ON. I throw shot put, hammer, discus and weight throw.
I started throwing in April of 2016 at the same time as I was playing competitive soccer and hockey. As I had never competed in an individual sport, track and field was very different for me. But I immediately fell in love. Throwing helped me build a lot of confidence and strength. That same summer, I finished 6th at the Legion T&F Nationals.
In my sophomore year, I finished 1st at the 2017 OFSAA Track and Field Championships. I also received two bronze medals in the u18 shot put and hammer throw at the Legion T&F Ontario provincials.
In my junior year (2018), I finished 6th in the senior girls shot put at the 2018 OFSAA Track and Field Championships being one of the few junior girls in the entire competition.
I am a very intense and focused athlete ready to do all of the work and more expected from me. I know that the work all starts in the weight room. I am familiar with Olympic weight lifting, as well as explosive and hip mobility training . All of these important training methods have helped me in the past and I continue to pursue them.
In November of 2017, I tried out for my senior varsity volleyball team. I initially researched the corelation of volleyball, agility and explosiveness. I quickly realized that volleyball would benefit my throwing. I had never played volleyball before, but made the team. My team ended up qualifying for the 2018 OFSAA Volleyball Championships. That same season, I played my last year of competitive hockey, following the end of my competitive soccer career. I will continue to play on my varsity volleyball team as well as playing in a non competitive hockey league.
My goals are to continue to be a very supportive and energetic team mate, to work my hardest in and out of the weight room and to keep my head up even when I am down.
