2015 HighlightsAfter the season ended freshman year, I realized that I had a passion for running. I was persuaded into joining the sport by my 8th grade gym teacher and some fellow cross country runners, and I instantly fell in love. My only regret about running is not starting sooner. Before I started running last year, I battled weight issues and endured humiliation from others. Instead of letting this control my life, I took it upon myself to maintain a healthy lifestyle and become a better athlete. My 5k time went from a 32:54 to a 19:40 in less than 3 years as a result. I want to show others that no matter what position you've been in or how many people deny what you can do, you can still work hard to achieve your goals.
While I have grown in the sport individually, I feel that my teammates pushed me to improve and succeed. I would love to continue this experience in college, where I could run with other ambitious, determined athletes. With this opportunity at hand, I feel that I could have a positive impact on a collegiate-level team.
I value both my academics and athletics, and I feel that they are major factors in who I am today. In the winter of 2015, I made the decision to leave Walkersville for the International Baccalaureate program at Urbana. I felt that by going there, I would challenge myself and therefore become the best student-athlete that I can be.
I may just seem like one of the millions of hopeful athletes. However, my level of determination and the road I have taken to get this far demonstrates the kind of committment necessary in a collegiate sport. I hope that you will consider me as an adequate candidate for your team.
