Personal Statement
While many might argue that track and field is an individual sport, I disagree. Although we are constantly competing against our own personal bests, it is what happens during practice that matters. As a teammate, I always strive to improve in my own events but also help others reach their goals. So this summer, as my project for the National Honor Society, I have dedicated my time to planning and running a track camp at my high school for kids to learn about track, discover what they love, and help improve whatever skills they may be working on. I remember going into my freshman track season extremely nervous and unprepared for what was ahead of me, so my goal is to make as many kids as possible feel excited and ready as they transition onto the high school team. To this day, as I enter my senior year, I continue to feel grateful for the time, patience, and opportunities that my coaches have given me. I plan on giving these younger athletes the same experience I was given.
I have learned what it means to not only be a good teammate but take the extra step in helping those around me. I'm looking for a program that fits me athletically, as well as academically. Because of my unwavering dedication to the teams I belong to, my leadership skills, and my overall work ethic on and off the track, I believe that I have what it takes to compete for a college-level team. As the team captain for each of the teams I'm currently on, I know that I can have a great impact on your team.
