While my criteria for college will be primarily academic, I would love to play a sport in college; I have participated in athletics almost constantly since sixth grade, and it would be difficult to imagine my life without them.
One quality that I think sets me apart from other recruits is my work ethic. When I am passionate about something, I can work independently very effectively, which is useful for both academics and athletics. In athletics, it means that I take the time to learn and train, even when by myself, and I pursue opportunities that I think can help me improve. In academics, it means that I am able to work on topics with minimal outside assistance, while still acheiving an understanding of the concept.
I am also not adverse to challenge, and am willing to continue, even when a task gets difficult. My family is Finnish, and the term "sisu" comes up often, meaning "grit, determination, resilience, and hardiness". It is something that we strive for, and I work to embody it in both my academics and athletics. Something I often repeat to myself when something gets difficult is "No one said it was going to be easy", and I always do my best to accept the challenge and put forth my best effort, no matter the circumstances.
