My name is Sophia Axelrod and I am a member of the class of 2024.
My primary sport is Track and Field, where my main event is the discus throw. As it is illegal for high school students in Massachusetts to participate in the hammer throw, I also hope that this will be an additional event I will compete for in college. My dream is to throw at a collegiate level while attending a school where I also hope to continue a strong academic career.
I am currently the women's school record holder in the discus, with a throw of 118'6. Additionally, I was the 2022 Bay State discus champion, the 2022 D3 state discus champion, and placed 8th in discus at the 2022 State Meet of Champions. I was also named a 2022 Bay State All-Star.
I am a team player and leader, who strives to help others become their own best versions of an athlete. I arrive early to practice, ready and eager to grow my skills and knowledge. I am a hard worker who always strives for more and will put in the efforts to achieve my goals. This not only applies to athletics, but academics as well. I believe that school plays a foundational part in helping me become a better individual and athlete.
I maintain a strong GPA and am working towards scoring well on the SAT later this spring. I am taking 2 AP classes, with the plan on taking more my senior year. I have taken multiple honors courses and have enjoyed challenging myself intellectually.
Additionally, I am a member of the speech and debate team, the UNICEF club, the community service club, and the women's defense and safety club. During the summer, I have volunteered as a camp CIT and plan on working as a camp counselor again.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my personal statement and profile! I am excited to see where my athletic and academic career will take me!
