Going into my freshman year I decided that I wanted to graduate with a 4.0 and be running with our top runner in cross country by the time I graduated. So I pushed myself to stay focused on school and to push myself in cross country and track. I ended up taking the PSAT without studying for it or knowing I was going to take it until the week before we did, but I still got a 1230. My freshman year my cross country team made it our goal to go to states. My only fear was getting hurt since I have dealt with persistent injuries in sports since fifth grade. I ended up getting hurt twice running my freshman cross country season with two ankle injuries. I would hurt bad during races, but I would always finish. This taught me the power of my mind and what I can do with it. This showed during my regional meet in cross country when I was coming in the last 400 meters and a girl from the other team was right behind me. I knew that if she beat me they would go to states so I told myself I had to finish strong so my team could finally go to states. I had to be carried away from the finish but I beat her. That season we won our conference meet, got third at regionals, and made it to States.
I felt so proud of us and so accomplished since all the hard work payed off. I grew a lot as an athlete freshman year. I became more competitive and determined to always do better. I constantly set goals for myself and my team. I always do whatever the coach needs me to do. As someone who does three sports I love competition.
