My name is Grace Fletcher. I am a senior at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, NY.
I have always known I wanted to run track. It combines two of my strengths: competitiveness and the ability to run fast. I also enjoy being a part of a team. I work hard both to run my best and to encourage and inspire my teammates to do the same. I have been a captain since 10th grade.
For my senior year I've decided to run cross country rather than continue with soccer, a sport I have played since age 5. It was a hard decision, but I am committed to running, and want to continue to work hard and grow.
I have been running track since 7th grade. In 8th grade I qualified for Sectionals in the 100 and 200. We had no 9th grade outdoor season due to the pandemic, and an abbreviated 10th grade season. In my junior year I anchored our indoor 4x800 to a Sectional championship, where I also finished 3rd in the 600.
In my 11th grade outdoor season, I competed in every distance, working both on speed and distance, and set a school record by becoming the first girl to qualify for Sectionals in every event from the 100 to the 3000 in a single season. I also lowered my 400 PR by 6 seconds and began competing in the open 800, qualifying for Sectionals in my first race. I ran and won both the 800 and the 4x800 at Sectionals. Our 4x800 also won state qualifiers, and finished 4th in New York State Division 2 at the State championship meet. We were also named to the 2022 All-CNY Girls Division II Outdoor Track and Field Team by the Syracuse news.
I am a hard worker in everything I do in the classroom and on the track. As I continue to grow as a student and an athlete, I am excited for college and being a part of a new team where I can continue to train hard, and compete at an even higher level, knowing I will just keep getting faster.
