Hello to anyone who may be reading this. My name is Brier Amerlinck and I’m a junior at Williamsville North High School. I have been on the varsity cross country/track teams since the seventh grade. I am a dedicated student who spends her free time running, encouraging her teammates, volunteering, and spending time with family. Before I started running on the team at school my family and I participated in many 5K road races. We always enjoyed ourselves during, and after the run. Those races spiked my interest in running, and eventually led me to try out for the varsity team in seventh grade. Once I went to high school, I was extremely excited to see what I was capable of as a Freshman. I was also excited to finally be competing in the high school level as a high school student. In 9th grade , however, I was diagnosed with two stress fractures, one in each of my shins. This injury brought me down both physically and mentally. I loved being there to cheer on all my teammates but it was difficult to not compete. This experience made me realize that running was the sport I really loved and wanted to continue through high school. After my injury it was hard to get back into shape. I started training with a strength coach during my recovery and continue to train with him today. Covid was a strange year and now I am in my junior year and feel confident as well as excited to see what this season will bring. I have been training hard to achieve my goals, and I am hoping for some personal records. I look forward to connecting with some of you who may be reading this.
