I first became interested in track when my older sister decided to try it out. I went to her first meet, and, from then on, I couldn't wait until I could sign up and compete with her. Finally, my first chance came and I knew I wanted to try events that were different than what my sister did. So, I tried long and triple jump, and after the very first time, I knew I wanted to work to be the best at these events. Since then, I have worked as hard as possible to make that happen.
I only have one year of high school track and field completed, and I have already learned a lot not only as an athlete, but as a person, too. In the beginning of my freshman year I did not know what to expect. I often think about that feeling of uncertainty and what I was able to accomplish that first year despite being unsure of myself. I’ve been able to learn what it is to exceed my own expectations, do my worst the next day, and, through that experience, build character. It has been the bad meets and practices that motivate me to try and better myself the next time and not continue to do less than I know I can.
As a student-athlete, I understand that school is just as important as my work on the track and runways. My academic goals are to do my best and maintain my above average gpa. I am consistently making sure I try my best so I do not get that feeling that I knew I could’ve done better when I look back. I am looking forward to my upcoming years on the track and wherever they may take me after high school.
