2017 Highlights I have never been the girl that peers considered as a "superstar athlete" and people who have doubted me have only made me work harder to prove them wrong. Once I found track & field, I knew it was a different sport and a sport tailored to me. My participation in track and field began when the softball team was cut from my middle school due to the lack of girls participating. My father was a talented hammer thrower and shortly after softball was cut, I was introduced to the shot put. For my first two years of the sport, it was a lot of teaching myself through youtube videos to learn and see what techniques worked best. I fell in love with the event and only wanted to improve. During the summer before my freshman year, my mother and I decided that we wanted to do some research to see if we could find the right throwing coach. It has been two years that I've been training with the same coach (Matt Ellis) and I wouldn't be as successful as I am today without him by my side. In February of my freshman year, I started training and lifting and my throws have improved. This summer, I would like to increase my focus on throwing discus and hammer. My goal is to improve and be successful in more than one event. I've played a variety of sports (softball, basketball, volleyball, and throwing in indoor and outdoor track and field) and commitment has always been a major part of being a leader in my eyes. Being on time and giving everything my all is VERY crucial to me and being part of a team. Track is extremely important to me and I wish to improve during my next two (2) years of high school and the following four (4) years of college.
