Personal Statement
My name is Nala Best, class of 2024 at Klein High School in Spring, Texas. I have the Best last name and have lived up to my name on and off the track.
On the track, I compete in the 100m, 200m, 400m, Long jump and am a team player when it comes to the 4x100m,4x200m, and 4x400m. My sophomore year, I competed on varsity track and advanced to the Area meet in the 4x100m and 4x200m.
My love for track stemmed from the opportunities, obstacles, and people I have encountered. These experiences have built my character. For example: As a missionary kid, I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, and experienced track and field on a different continent. I qualified for the SA nationals in track, but I was denied the opportunity of competing because I wasn't a SA citizen. The experience didn't make me shy away from the track, but made me more determined to compete at a collegiate level and study further.
Off the track, I am a diligent worker, maintaining a 4.5 weighted GPA and was top 3 learner in my freshman year in South Africa. I am an involved student: leader of Fellowship of Christian Athletes(FCA), Secretary of Black Student Union(BSU), and member of the Klein Band. My dream is to major in education to become a math teacher. I am most interested in attending a university in Texas, but living overseas for twelve years, I am open to urban, private, and HBCUs throughout the country.
