Personal Statement
I am the daughter of an immigrant father from the island of Jamaica and a middle-class mother from Pennsylvania. I have grown up with examples of what it means to work hard displayed before my eyes on a daily basis. Since early childhood, my parents have stressed the importance of being well rounded and attending college in order to achieve my goals. In grade school, I played soccer, softball and even gymnastics. However, nothing really interested me until I was introduced to track and field at my local YMCA. To put it simply, I fell in love with running and have been doing so since I was nine years old.
Recently, my club coach of 9 years from North Texas Cheetahs passed away on March 27, 2020 due to Covid 19. Coach Orlando McDaniel was an incredible man who inspired me to always give my all. He instilled self confidence. He taught me that success on race day is not really how well you run on that day, but how hard you run in practice.
I am looking forward to carrying on his legacy, but also creating my own. I am excited about competing and contributing to my college track team.
