As a student athlete I know how important grades are. I work hard to maintain a high GPA. I currently have a GPA of 3.98, and am ranked 10th in my class out of three hundred plus students. I am preparing myself for college by focusing on science classes, seeing as how I would like to major in biology and take the pre-med route in college. I do not have my mind set on a particular college; however, I would prefer a small school in the Midwest region. My family, in the future could use support paying for my college education. In the future, I am also looking to become involved in FASA to help pay my way through college. I expect to maintain a solid GPA, and I look forward to my more challenging classes in my last two years of high school.
In high school, I now realize how my grades will impact my future; I also see how sports can impact my future as well. I have been a gymnast for thirteen years. I am always working hard at practice; I try to never waste a minute of my time. I began competing gymnastics through the YMCA in third grade and continued through freshmen year. When competing through the YMCA, I qualified for state and nationals six years in a row. I transferred from Roncalli High School to Lincoln High School so I could pursue my dream of high school gymnastics. As a sophomore I accomplished many things. I broke the school record on floor with a score of 9.3, qualified individually for state beam, earned First Team All-Conference, was selected as Athlete of the Month at my school, Gymnast of the County by the local newspaper, earned Academic All-State Honors, was voted Most Valuable and Most Promising by my team, and was Eastern Valley Conference Champion on floor. I have always considered college gymnastics, but never knew how to put my name out there. To me, college gymnastics would be icing on the cake.
It was through gymnastics that I learned about pole vault. One of my close friends I competed with, told me I should really consider pole vault freshmen year at Roncalli. I am so glad I gave it a try! I love the excitement of clearing heights and the overall craziness of the sport. My first year vaulting I cleared 7’6”. My freshmen year was all about learning the ropes. As a sophomore I really wanted to improve, and with hard work I did. As a sophomore, I began to bend the pole, and developed a better understanding of vaulting. I was able to improve by a foot, raising my best height to 8’6”. I enjoy pole vaulting greatly, and wish I would have been involved in vaulting earlier. I would love to have the opportunity to pole vault in college.
In the future, I hope to attend a well suited school for me. I would love to pay for college with an athletic scholarship, or to just have the opportunity to compete at the college level. I also want to thank you for taking the time to read about me, I greatly appreciate it.
