Monique Felix '15 Recruiting Profile

Sports have been the biggest part of my life, along with school, starting at a young age. I've always aspired to be a successful student-athlete, and during high school I realized what I wanted to do in the future. It is my dream, and my goal to run in college. I am very dedicated to this goal. This year I made the decision to not continue with basketball to pursue my dreams in running. I used this extra time to train 6 days of the week. During these days I worked with my trainer, my father, to build my strength and speed. I am grateful for the time he sacrifices to help me get better and attribute my success to his dedication to me. Without running, or sports, my life would not be the same.

My winter training and dedication to track paid off this season, as I qualified for state in three events and broke my schools' records in the events as well. At state, I placed 5th in triple jump with a jump of 37'3.25" (a new PR) so competing under pressure did not get to me. I also placed 5th in 300m low hurdles (also a new PR) with a time of 45.25. My dedication to the sport and my goals is obvious, especially when comparing times from my previous seasons.

Outside of sports, I am a very dedicated student and I heavily involve myself in school. My junior I was elected Treasurer of my school's chapter of Future Business Leaders of America. As the only non-senior officer, I hope to be elected for President next year, as it is something I am very passionate about. I am also a leader of a group at my school known as Blue Crew. In this club I speak to freshman to help assimilate them to life in high school and help guide them through rough patches in the year. I'm also a member of National Honor Society. Through it, I have found a passion in community service as well. I work very hard in school, as I am in more honors classes and college classes that most of my peers. I am on track to be a valedictorian of my class in 2015 as I am ranked in the top 1% of my class. Overall, I strive for greatness not only on the track and the cross country course, but also in school.
