I have learned over my years of involvement in water polo that believing in yourself is the most important thing in achieving success. I started water polo when I was 8 years old not even knowing how to swim. My friend and her father encouraged me to join their water polo team. I fell in love with the sport and this love has continued to grow over the years. I have always been known as the player with a smile on my face. I thrive off the pressure of critical game situations. I love the challenge of a 5 meter shot and the sound of knocking the ball down then making a long pass to my teammates who are on the breakaway and watching them score. The best feeling for me is knowing that I'm helping my teammates to succeed. I appreciate the help and feedback that I have received from my teammates and coaches over the years both positive and negative. I realize that there are things to be learned both in failure and success. Giving back and helping others is rewarding to me.
I have always known that for me to succeed both academically and in water polo that I would have to step up and try to work harder and be more dedicated. Being chosen for the Canadian U17 National Team was a goal that I set for myself. I knew that to achieve this goal was going to take dedication, focus and hard work. When I was ultimately selected for this team, I truly felt honoured to be grouped with the other athletes on the team. It gave me an understanding of what it takes to achieve goals but being in that environment made me realize that this was just a beginning and to continue with success will take even more hard work. Academically, I am working hard to achieve college/ university eligibility. I make use of resources at my high school including extra tutorial sessions and interaction with my teachers.
I focus my time on water polo, school and my close friends and family who I value in my life.
