As a goalie, I am given constant opportunities to improve and grow as an athlete. In my mind, every shot taken is a lesson to learn something new. Whether a ball is scored or saved, I embrace what I learn to block the upcoming shot. Especially after being scored on, it can be easy to think discouraging thoughts. To overcome those mental barriers, the most valuable lesson I've learned is that you must always have a positive mindset. Even after a shot is scored, instead of focusing on what you didn't do, focus on what you will do next time. I've found that with a positive mindset, not only do you benefit, but so does your team. Waterpolo is a sport that requires great mental strength, it encourages you to play with perseverance, and to be resilient. I hope to play waterpolo for as long as I can, and I hope for the opportunity to encourage all my teammates to play positively.
