Hi Coaches! My name is Sophia King and I have been playing water polo competitively, both high school and club, since my freshman year. It is my goal to play water polo at a collegiate level, as well as pursuing a degree in sports medicine.
Before I began to play water polo, I was a competitive swimmer since the 5th grade, which is where I learned I had a love for the water. I was introduced to water polo freshman year and I loved the fact that I was able to combine my swimming history with a more team based sport and cohesive environment where I could interact and bond with my teammates.
I work hard to make sure I am a valuable player on any team. In Texas, the 2022 high school season was the first season where UIL made water polo an official sport, instead of just a club. In this season I helped lead the varsity team by being one of the top contributors in games and also teaching those that are new to water polo what I have learned in my years with my club team to increase the chances of our prosperity as a team. I also have been participating in ODP where I went to both the regional and national competitions. This helped increase my experience and difficulty of games to learn what I can do better against tougher competition to become a well rounded athlete.
In addition to water polo, I have been on the varsity swim through out high school and I am also a trumpet section leader for my state-level competing marching band. Balancing these very different aspects of my life, as well as a 4.2 GPA with 3 AP classes, have helped me develop my ability to prioritize and organize myself so that I can fully commit to the things I am most passionate about as well as gaining skills of leadership and patience. This all contributes to my ability to make intelligent decisions while am in the pool and outside of it.
I look forward to the opportunity to further discuss what I can bring to your team. Thank you for your time and consideration!
