Hello! My name is Ruby Julien-Newsom. I currently weigh in at about 132 lbs, and usually wrestle 125s and 130s. I am a California State Finalist, ranking 2nd in California. I am currently nationally ranked #8 at 125 lbs. I placed 2nd in the boys Avocado League, I am my team's 126 lbs varsity boy starter, I am a 3x Masters Qualifier and a 1x State Qualifier. I won the 2023-2024 North County Conference Scholar Athlete award for girls wrestling. Some other accomplishments of mine include: 3rd at the US Open Girls Highschool Showcase, Reno TOC Champion and OW, TPHS athlete of the year, San Diego Section female athlete of the year, and many more. I dream of one day making it to the Olympics. I have been wrestling since June 2022, the summer before my sophomore year, which means I have about 3 years worth of wrestling experience. I wrestle all year-round and a hard working athlete. I also try to compete in every tournament I'm able to and put everything I have into my matches, no matter if It's a random off-season tournament, or a state tournament. Not only am I incredibly dedicated and passionate about wrestling, but I also excel in the gym and in lifting weights. I got into lifting towards the end of my 8th grade year and have been showing up to the gym pretty much every day of the week since then. I like to do my own thing in the gym, by focusing on bodybuilding, powerlifting, and a couple lifting-related exercises that are wrestling-focused. I love the gym and I hope to one day compete in a powerlifting competition. My current stats as of the last time I maxed my lifts are: 190 lbs for bench press, 315 for deadlift, and 265 for squat. Other than wrestling and the gym, which are two of my favourite things and take up most of my time, you can find me studying and doing my homework, exceling not just on the mat or in the gym, but also inside the classroom. I work hard to get good grades and make sure I stay ahead of my assignments even with my very busy athletic schedule. I am an A to A+ student, finishing my juniour year with a 4.33 GPA and having an overall GPA of 4.17. I hope to get into a good college and continue my wrestling career with a great college team with other great female wrestlers who will push me to work even harder, to be the best I can be, and I am able to call my friends. Other than wrestling in college, I want to pursue a career in Civil engineering. Throughout highschool I've taken engineering classes and have grown to love the creative, yet mathematical aspect of this field of work. I love being able to do hands-on projects, creating models with various materials, and working with my peers as a team.
