My name is Jocelyn and I am a 14-year-old freshman with a deep passion for wrestling. I started my journey in combat sports at the age of 11 with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, where I developed resilience, discipline, and a strong work ethic. In my first year of high school, I transitioned to wrestling and earned a spot on the varsity girls’ team, where I competed against upperclassmen. Despite being new to the sport, I finished the season with a 20-15 record, placed 3rd at the 2025 Conant High School Girls' Tournament in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and took 2nd place at the 2025 IHSA DuKane Conference Tournament.
At the 2025 IHSA Regionals, I was proud to be the only freshman to place in the top 10 within my weight class. Throughout the regular season, I wrestled between the 115, 120, and 125-pound weight classes, gaining valuable experience and sharpening my skills. I am fully committed to my growth as an athlete. I will be training during the off-season to build on my successes and improve my technique. I hope to be invited to attend some summer camps this year as well.
I aspire to compete at the collegiate level and eventually represent my country in wrestling, with long-term goals of competing in the Armed Forces Wrestling Championships or even the Olympics. Inspired by my family's military service, I am driven to push myself both in the sport and as a person. I take pride in being a leader, a dedicated teammate, and a hard-working athlete who is always looking for ways to improve.
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement and for considering my potential as a student-athlete. I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you further and hope to hear from you soon.
