I am a third generation Herzog wrestler. Wrestling is in my blood and has shaped the person I am today. It has taught me a lot about myself, the challenges I’m capable of overcoming, and that anything is possible with determination and hard work.
Life is full of challenges. As a wrestler, there will be times when you fail and lose a match and times when you are up against an opponent who is much more skilled and stronger than you are. However, you can still push through. Wrestling has shown me that when you put the time in, it will show on the mat. I strive to practice this in my daily life with my schooling and relationships. In addition, this sport has taught me to be persistent and to continue to push toward my aspirations.
My passion for wrestling and drive to be successful in life were influenced by my father and brother. My father built his company from the ground up and he instilled in me that you must make sacrifices and devote your time and energy to the things that are important. My brother is on the Autism spectrum and has also been a true inspiration to me. He has taught me the importance of patience and understanding, which has helped me become a stronger teammate and learner.
The success I have achieved in wrestling and throughout my life has not been without obstacles. School in particular has always been a struggle for me and I have learned that in order to be successful, I must be open to learning new things, accepting help, and taking the necessary steps to better myself. I have always been ambitious and will not hesitate to do what is necessary to be successful. In school when I am struggling, I seek help from my teachers. I apply the same principle when wrestling. I am constantly trying to better myself, learn new techniques, seek the guidance of my coaches and experienced wrestlers, and remain open to suggestions for improvement.
With my high school career coming to an end, I am determined to reach my goals in life. I am eager to continue my journey to reaching my goals in college. It is my plan to wrestle through college as well as be a successful student. I would like to earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher while pursuing my degree in fire science. This path will require hard work and commitment, but I know that I have what it takes.
Thank you for your consideration and for the opportunity to share my story.
