I am currently a sophomore at Valley Christian High School. Valley Christian is a private school in the WCAL (West Catholic Athletic League). Valley is not notoriously known for it’s wrestling program but being a Warrior, I consider it my job and opportunity to put Valley Christian back on the map for the sport that I love. I placed 3rd in the WCAL Varsity 126 weight class my freshman year and was also rewarded with MVP. I earned my entry into the Central Coast Section and went on to be the captain of the team. It’s now my second season of high school wrestling and I’m currently undefeated in my league. What motivates me everyday is pushing and encouraging my teammates to be the best wrestlers that they can be. I have learned that wrestling is not only a physical sport but it’s also mental. If you don’t believe and have confidence in yourself then you won’t bring your best to the mat. What makes me feel good inside is knowing that I’m getting better as a wrestler every day and while I’m doing that I am also making my team better. I’ve been wrestling since 2011 and have been able to experience what it feels like to stand on the podium as a 1st, 2nd and 3rd placer in CA for Greco, Freestyle and Folk style. What makes me a good wrestler is my patience, respect and openness to being mentored on how I can improve myself. I am part of my schools Applied Math, Science & Engineering program which challenges me to stretch my academics so that I can learn as much as I possibly can while working towards being a great athlete and leader. Since I love math I want to pursue my education in that study. I want to be the first in my family to graduate from a Division 1 college. My college goal is to get a great education and fill a position as a true freshman. I want to be a great addition to the overall team that I become a part of. In my spare time, I like to be involved with the wrestling community by teaching younger kids what I know. When I’m not wrestling for my high school, I wrestle for my league and also help them host wrestling events by setting up the mats, the score tables and concession stand. I have built a strong bond with the people that have taught me wrestling, so I love to give back by volunteering wherever I can.
