Motivated, reliable, and dedicated are the three words that best describe my personality. I am driven to succeed and strive continuously to do more and be better.
Athletics: I started wrestling in 8th grade, which is this area of California is often considered too late. I was frequently told that our division was one of the top in the country and I didn’t have a chance in the sport because I started too late. I was coined as the underdog. Due to the fact that I was so active in extracurricular activities and academics I never really had the chance to train with an off-season team either but I was determined to focus all of my energy into the sport during wrestling season.
Freshman year I made varsity and by my junior year I was team captain. By senior year I accomplished my dream of qualifying for state and I ended my journey with 25th at CIF and 2nd at the USA Folkstyle State competition.
Extra-Curricular: I am the horn sergeant for the El Diamante Marching Miners and lead saxophone in our Jazz and advanced band. I am also a soloist and lead in our city honor band. Essentially, band and wrestling were my two major contributions to my high school and I excelled in both.
Academics: I am in class by 7:00 a.m. and home at after 9:00 p.m. most days during the week due to wrestling and band practice. This gives me just enough time to eat, shower, study, and do homework before I have to get up and do it all again. My passion is in the sciences and I have excelled in science and math courses throughout high school. I have been in several advanced placement courses including Biology and two years of AP English. I would like to major in the field of science, possibly bio engineering. My overall weighted GPA is 3.54.
Growing up my father was active duty military, which required our family to move around frequently. I have been to nine different schools, this experience has enabled me to learn to adapt to new academic standards quickly and successfully. While some may consider this a setback, I have always thought of it as a valuable experience that taught me from an early age how to acclimate to my surroundings effectively. I mention this because it validates that I am not only academically ready for the collegiate experience but mentally prepared for the challenge as well.
