My name is Kyler Howard. I am a varsity wrestler at Mount Vernon High School. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the sport and I’d love to pursue it in college. I grew up doing jiujitsu and began wrestling in 8th grade. I have worked hard year round the last couple years to increase my knowledge and experience. I am an extremely hard worker. I don’t quit and I put in extra time any chance I get. I seek out various camps and work with one of my coaches outside of team time on a regular basis. I am humble, determined, loyal and committed. I believe that it’s important to help my teammates every chance I get by being a positive contribution to the team environment. I lead by example and help motivate others. I am currently in my second 6 month session of Wrestling Mindset, a program where I work with individually with a coach every week to help me grow in all aspects of the sport outside of mat time (mental toughness, self knowledge, relaxing under pressure, goal setting, etc...) These skills have not only made a huge difference in my wrestling, but have also helped me grow as an individual and student. The mental side of wrestling is just as important as the physical side and I have enjoyed sharing what I’ve learned with my teammates. I received the Most Improved Award at the end of each season during my freshman and sophomore years. This year I was nominated Team Captain by my peers and coaches. I’ve made an effort to support the young guys on our team by attending our JV events and helping them in anyway I can. I believe in always being a good sport and that you either win or learn in the process. I would love to pursue wrestling in college and continue to grow.
Academically , I work hard and take my grades seriously. I consistently have As and Bs. I am exploring careers for after college but have not decided upon a major.
