Personal Statement
I have been wrestling since 7th grade and think it is the greatest sport anyone could ever have the honor to be a part of. It has taught me perseverance when all I wanted to do was quit. It has taught me that I must put myself first in order to be successful. However, no one succeeds alone and I put trust in my coaches and teammates in order to become a better wrestler today than I was yesterday. My goal is to be the master of my sport, not mediocre. I love the feeling of having my hand raised and standing at the top of the podium. Wrestling has taught me that hard work is more than just putting time in on the mat. It is about seeking out more efficient moves and being innovative and never settling. It has taught me how to lose with grace and win with pride. I have won and lost many matches in my short wrestling career and I have learned from those losses that it is no fun to lose. I know how it feels and will never forget that feeling. It is what drives me to put in the extra hours, run to practice instead of driving my car, and to never hit snooze when I could be training. Wrestling has taught me to face my challenges head on and not to ever flee. It has taught me to be a better student, friend, brother, and son. All these things are what make me who I am. I am independent, confident, competitive, and constantly looking for ways to better my current situation. I owe all these things to wrestling and would not be the person I am today without these very hard learned lessons of the wrestling world.
