Personal Statement

I have been told many times that I have a fighting spirit and that I am not easily discouraged. When I fail or mess up, I go train, study, and think about what I could have done differently or better. Every time I come back, whether It's on the wrestling mat or in the classroom, I do much better than I did the first time. This is what sets me apart from most other recruits, my strong will. When I'm learning something new or don't understand something, I'll be attentive and listen to my coach, or teacher, and practice till I get it down. My goal is to be a champion on and off the mat. I want to win state this year in Wisconsin and possibly advance to a higher level of wrestling. In the classroom, I wish to earn all A's and pass my AP tests. This will ultimately help me get into college so I can study computer science, which is what I would like to have a career in after school.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Luther team camp
  • 7/09/23 to 7/12/23
  • I went into this camp without a team, so I was placed with ADM of Iowa. I won 9/10 of my duel matches (many of them against Iowa state qualifiers) and I placed third in the gold bracket at the end of the camp.
  • Camp/Event
  • Iowa Wrestling Summer Camp
  • 6/25/23 to 6/29/23
  • I won the All-Star Tournament they ran at the end of the camp against the third-place state finisher from Florida and a couple of the college wrestlers there came up to me and told me I had lots of potential. I also did this camp the year before and placed second in the all-star tournament that year.
  • Camp/Event
  • WIAA Individual state
  • 2/23/23 to 2/25/23
  • I didn't win any matches, but I did have an extremely close match I unfortunately lost in double overtime. I gained lots of valuable experience from this tournament that I took with me to camps and will take with me into senior year.

Training

  • Weight training
  • 3 years
  • I lift at least 4 times a week during the school year and 5 or 6 times during the summer. I try to focus on compound lifts with explosive lift supplements. My school is part of a program called ETS Performance that has customized lifts for me as a wrestler.
  • running
  • 5 years
  • I try and run a couple of miles a week when I can. During the offseason, I run long-distance during track season to increase my wrestling endurance. I also ran cross country in middle school, but stopped when I started football freshman year.
  • wrestling
  • 6 years
  • I only started wrestling in 7th grade, however, I fell in love with it instantly and have been training hard for it ever since. I wrestled for a club team freshman year and won lots of tournaments. Due to covid, I wasn't able to have the chance to qualify for state, because it got shut down. Luckily, during my sophomore year everything was pretty much normal and I was able to qualify for sectionals(Wisconsin's road to state goes regional, sectionals, state). I have been going to summer camps for wrestling to learn technique too. I've gone to the Iowa Hawkeyes' camp for 2 years and I've won 2 of their all-star tournaments at the end of the camp, one of which was against the third-place winner at state in Florida! I also went to the Luther college team camp by myself, so I joined ADM of Iowa for the duration of the camp. I ended up winning 9/10 of my matches in duels, and placing 3rd in the final tournament (I was in the top bracket of my weight class).

Additional Sports

  • Football
  • 4 years
  • Varsity Team
  • This year I have the most tackles on my team as the starting middle linebacker.
  • Track

  • Junior Varsity Team
  • I run long distance in track and I specialize in the 800. My 800 time is 2:15 and my mile time is 5:13

Academic Accomplishments

Are you in AP/IB classes?
Yes. I took physics and AP Language and Composition last year and I'm taking Physics 2, Micro and Macro economics, calculus, and statistics this year. Last year I passed both my AP classes with a B in lang and comp and A B+ in physics; however, I did get a 2 on both AP tests.
Registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center?
No

Awards and Activities

  • AwardsI'm part of the National Honors Society at my school, which is prestigious because you need a 3.5 GPA and a certain amount of hours of volunteer work to get in. There is also an application that needs to be filled out about yourself to be accepted. I am also on track to receive the highest honors at graduation because I've taken all the necessary courses to receive this through the years. Another accomplishment is completing my 4th year of Spanish this year, which only about 20 other kids in my senior class have done.
  • ActivitiesI volunteer at various places for NHS. A couple of examples would be: when I took about 2 weeks to clean out a church so it had room for a daycare to be put in, I helped coach summer football for middle schoolers, I deliver donated food to a homeless shelter in lacrosse, and many other various jobs.
