Darren Smith '19 Recruiting Profile

I have played the quarterback position since I was 5 years old for our youth club flag football program. I have continued to play quarterback since that time. I began my varsity position in 8th grade as a back up quarterback. As a freshman I am the starting quarterback for varsity. I LOVE football. I know my position inside and out and continue to strive for greatness. My idol has been Tom Brady and I aspire to be a great quarterback. I continue to work hard at school both academically and athletically. I continue to stay involved with workout sessions, training camps and one on one quarterback training. My dream is play division one football and I will continue to push towards that day throughout the years to come.  As a quarterback I remain calm in the pocket, I can read the defense and make changes to my line as appropriate, I am able to make the screen pass and the long pass with accuracy.

2016 Stats and records:

Passed for 3143 yards, 32 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions

Averaged 263 passing yards per game; the team averaged 386 yards and 37 points per game.

School Records:

• Threw for the school record for passing yards in a season at 3143
• Now holds the school record for passing completions in a season at 199
• Now holds the school record for passing attempts in a season 338
• Now holds the school record for passing yards in a game at 442; sectional semifinal win over Harpursville-Afton; threw for 442 yards, 28 for 34, 1 TD

Section IV Records:

• Threw for the SECTION IV record in a season at 3143 yards
• Has tied the school and Sections IV record for touchdowns thrown in a season at 32
• Awarded Class D First team All-Star (the only QB awarded this honor)
• Selected for the All Region Team
• Selected as a Region Elite 24 athlete
• Section IV Class D Champions with a win over Unatego 36-21; he threw for 259 yards, 18 for 21 and 2 TD’s

State Records:

• Now sits in the top four all-time NYS performances
• Holds the 4^th place spot in NYS for all-time passing yards in a season
• Awarded MVP in the State quarterfinals and Regional win over Onondaga 42-36; 329 passing yards, 5 TD’s and 13 rushing yards
• Selected to the NYS First Team All-State the only sophomore awarded
