What the Coaches are Saying...
Sep 11, 2018

“Hi, thanks for taking the time to look into our women's basketball program at D'Youville College! As Head Coach and alumnus of D’Youville, I can tell you that D’Youville is a great school, very friendly, small class sizes, and the staff and faculty are very supportive and want to see everyone succeed. We are a private school, located near Downtown Buffalo. We have about 3,200 students, and athletics is growing here as we now have over 200 student athletes. Academically we offer some of the best award winning programs. We offer 27 baccalaureate, 8 master and 5 post baccalaureate degrees. Athletically we offer 14 varsity sports, and participate in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and are a member of the NCAA Division III. I am in my third year as head coach of the Spartans. My first year was a rebuilding year in which we surprised a lot of teams and came out and played hard every game. Last season (2013-14), we qualified for our post season conference tournament for the first time since entering the AMCC and the first post season appearance since 2008. This season (as of 12/16/15) we are 7-2 and off to the best start in program history. I am committed to making this program a success again here at D’Youville. The program itself has a rich history of success.(2007,2008 NEAC Conference Champions; 2008 NCAA Tournament) As I stated earlier, I took over as the head coach of the women’s program in August 2012, but I have been here at D’Youville going on 9 years. As a student-athlete and member of the men’s basketball team (2006-2010), a graduate assistant, assistant coach, and now head coach and administrator. I have always been and continue to be a Spartan with pride! I am looking for the right type of player and student that will fit here at D’Youville, and can make this program a success again, and represent the school positively. I am committed to building and developing a strong and competitive women’s basketball team, while at the same time dedicated to preparing and educating my student-athletes to be successful off the court, in the classroom, and to be productive members of society when they graduate. To reach these goals, I am looking for a quality individual who shares our team and school values and has a drive to develop academically, socially, spiritually and of course, athletically. As a four year collegiate athlete, two time all-conference scholar athlete, and Cum Laude graduate of D’Youville College, I know the importance of a good education and what it takes to help student-athletes be successful on and off the court. Education is our priority here at D’Youville, and I am flexible with working with my student-athletes to ensure they get the most out of their education while also being a member of our women’s basketball program. Here at D’Youville it is about more than just basketball. As I stated, we hold academics to a very high level at our institution, and strive for the best. I am also big on volunteering and giving back to the community. Service is something I do look for in student-athletes, that shows me they are a well-rounded student athlete and individual. In my two years as coach, my teams have been recognized and awarded for community service events that included raising money for breast cancer awareness, juvenile diabetes research and volunteering time at a local boys and girls club to assist with tutoring and after school activities. If this sounds like something that you may be interested in and want to hear more about the program and the school, please shoot me an email and I would be happy to tell you some more about D’Youville College. My email is gloverd@dyc.edu ....In your email, be sure to tell me a bit about yourself and personalize the message. I am interested to know what you are looking to study and what you like to do in addition to basketball.”
