My name is Mathew Cox, but I have always been called Conner, my middle name. I live in Seale, Alabama where I am an upcoming sophomore at Russell County High School. I am passionate about my family, school, and baseball. I have been playing baseball since I was 4 years old. I started playing for Russell County in my 7th grade year where I was starting short stop on the middle school team in addition to being in the pitching rotation. I played Junior Varsity my 8th grade year where I was again the starting short stop and in the pitching rotation. My 9th grade year, I was the starting 2nd baseman for the Varsity team, and I anticipate being the starting 2nd baseman my 10th grade year also. I always maintain a positive attitude while still being very competitive, I push myself and my teammates to always be their best. I have been playing travel ball since I was 7 years old. At that time, I played on a 9U team due to my performance pitching and hitting. I currently play travel ball for Five Star SE where I am their ace pitcher. During my last outing pitching, I pitched 4 innings, had 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, and only allowed 1 run. I consistently threw my fastball at 76-79mph complemented by my curveball at 76mph and my change up at 68mph.
I am just as driven in the classroom as I am on the ball field. I am currently in 4 honors classes, and I maintain a 3.8 GPA. As a result, I was just accepted into The National Society of High School Scholars. I am not sure what I want my major to be in college, I love math and numbers so it will most likely be within that realm. I am dedicated to taking my skills in my sport and academics to the next level and plan to continue to push myself to exceed any goals that I set. Currently my short-term goal for school is to score a 25 or higher on my first attempt at the ACT in my 10th grade year. I plan to achieve this through weekly ACT and SAT prep. My long-term goal is to graduate in the top 10 of my class.
I have a very supportive family which includes my dad Michael, my mom Savannah, and my sister Aubrey. They support me chasing my goals and dreams and help push me to reach my full potential. My sister is one of my biggest cheerleaders and looks up to me as her older brother. Both of my parents work very hard at everything they do, and they always encourage me to be the best I can be in all aspects of life. The person I am today is in large part due to the love and support of my family. They have taught me that I am in control of the outcome of my future, and I should never settle for less than my best. I have been and will continue to be a leader on and off the field. I think that my commitment to excellence in baseball and academics as well as the guidance of my amazing family have made me a great potential addition to any school’s athletic and academic department. I look forward to fulfilling my dream of becoming a college athlete.
