Hi my Name is Calen Houle-Howse. Thankyou for taking the time to review my profile, let me tell you a little bit about me before I get into the full Statement. I just turned 18 years old this summer. Since I was a little boy, Sports were everything to me.. Hockey, Baseball and Football, I love all 3.. I played Highscool football, it was something I really loved and accelled at. Being a bigger guy, a lot of people under estimated me on the field because they didn't think that I was as athletic as the smaller guys but once that whistle blew I was dangerous in every aspect, from receiving the ball and running it down field to exploding through the opposing offensive line and gunning down that quarterback.. Football is a sport I still love and I am very interested in playing at a higher level but baseball is my true love.. From a young age I accelled in every aspect, I was always bigger then most boys my age so I always played with the older age groups.. I was always playing under age but that didn't stop me from accelling. My first big home run came when I was 12 years old, I was playing local baseball at the time (known as house league) when I crushed a fastball 345 feet over the men's hard ball diamond.. After that home run I got the confidence and everything Just went uphill from there. I was improving not only on the stats sheet but both physically and mentally and I knew baseball was the sport I was meant for.
My Goal is to play baseball at the College/University level, not only to experience the life of a college athlete but to also grow as a young man, learn to be independent and last but not least, get a Grade A education.
What makes me a good candidate for your team? I was raised in the country, cold winters, hot summers.. So I had to learn to adapt to the life around me, summertime didn't mean I got to go to the beach and soak up the sun with my friends, summertime meant I had to spend a lot of time taking care of our animals, taking care of my home and preparing for the winter ahead.. My Father always raised me to respect not only myself but other people infront of me, he taught me how to be independent and with that came a lot of hard work. In everyday life I choose to be someone who takes on a leadership role but in a respective manner, I'm not afraid to take charge and I'm also not afraid to look out for my peers when it comes to everyday life. Taking care of them and letting them know it's okay to take risks is something I try to live by. That's why I know I would be a great fit for your team, I'm open minded and outspoken, I speak with respect and I stand behind what I believe in.
I have a very easy, laid back type of character. I was always a shy guy mainly because I was always bigger then everyone but that didn't stop me from speaking up when I seen an opportunity. I am very respectful, I preach respect to my peers and my family, they really appreciate that about me. When you live with respect and care, you're going to go a long ways in life. Athleticism is something I was blessed with, being 6'4 265 pounds a lot of people wouldn't look at me and think I was capable of being athletic.. I'm not the fastest runner, the highest jumper or the strongest weight lifter but I can promise you that I will do everything I can to finish at the top of the list, my work ethic and drive is something I take pride in, my father was excellent in many sports, he always had a strong work ethic and the determination to do his best and that's something I inherited from him.. I always say this to myself.. Hard work beats Skill when Skill doesn't work hard enough.. Academically, I'll be honest, I went down during grade 10 & 11. Up to grade 10 I was an honour roll student but when I got into grade 10 I was going through some personal family issues and it took a big tole on me in school.. A lot of times my mind wasn't on the papers infront of me, I caught myself worrying about things that shouldn't have been bothering me.. I showed up to all my classes but at the end of the day I was finding my mindset outside of school.. As grade 12 rolled around I put my nose to the grind and brang up my grades to high 70's low 80's.. I know a lot of Colleges don't think twice about someone with 75-82 level grades but at the end of the day it's who the person really is.. I'm not gonna try make anybody believe I am the smartest kid around but one thing I can promise you is that no matter the task, no matter the subject, I will do everything I can to solve the answer, I give it my all untill I know the result and that's another trait that I have.. No matter what you put infront of me, I will put in 150% of my heart and effort into finding the solution.. I Carry that with me onto the Field, into the dressing room, out in everyday life and into my dreams.. I strongly believe I can make a difference in this world, I just need to be given the slightest opportunity and I'll do my thing.
I haven't written the SAT or ACT test yet so those small scores are 100% false, I had just filled them out like that so my profile could be complete. I am going to write my first SAT test this Fall
Hai Hai
Thankyou.
