Living away from home at 16 years old by myself to attend a baseball academy in Canada has been one of the highlights of my baseball career. Not only that it was life changing, this experience has taught me lots of valuable lessons that shaped my identity as a student athlete and changed my way of life. Seeing that the level of baseball in Canada is drastically higher than back home in Indonesia, I realize that I need to commit fully to baseball in order to be in the same level of others or even higher, which improved my time management skills and kept my work ethic high consistently. It also re-focuses my own efforts to reach my dream, which is to succeed as a student athlete and to become a solid infielder capable of playing at the college level.
These past three years I have been fortunate enough to be able to play competitive baseball in Canada and parts of US with a baseball academy that has great coaches and program. I am also very thankful to my supportive parents, who agreed on sending me half way across the world to pursue my dream, which is to play college baseball. Throughout my experience of living alone and away from my family for baseball, I have learned the importance of commitment, teamwork, perseverance, time management, leadership, and consistency as these qualities of individuals are needed for me to improve as a person and succeed. I am excited to find a school that is suitable for me academically and athletically. I believe that through my experience in life so far, I have the talent, work ethic, character, and leadership skills to reach the next level and help a team to succeed. I believe that I have what it takes to be a good student athlete that schools can be proud of.
