Devon Marra '14 Recruiting Profile

My name is Devon Marra, I am 17 years old, 5'10" and 170 pounds. My primary position is shortstop and my secondary positions are pitcher and 3rd base. I am in grade 12 at Mount Baker Senior Secondary, in Cranbrook BC Canada.

I started playing baseball when I was 9. More currently I played on the mount baker high school team as a shortstop/pitcher for the previous two years. Subsequent to that I play for the Rocky Mountain Bandits as a shortstop, this team plays in the American Legion league. I started playing for them when I was 14 and most players at that time were a minimum of 15 years old. I was initially a redshirt for the team but it turned out that I actually played third base for 13 games. In 2012, which was my first full year with the bandits I won rookie of the year award.

This year (2013) with the Bandits my batting average was .387 (at one point it was .427). With 106 at bats I had 14 doubles 4 triples 1 homerun and 23 singles and I had 30 RBI’s. For pitching I had an ERA of 3.78 with 30  innings pitched.

My coach has asked me to be a leader on the field and off the field by making sure all the equipment gets brought out and put back after practice, he also trusts me to oversee the younger players to ensure they are acting appropriately on and off the field. (IE on road trips, in hotels, in restaurants, and in other public places.)

In addition I assist our coach with the kids camps that run throughout the summer, I teach them the fundamentals and basic skills of baseball. I have been doing this for the past three summers.

I am dedicated to being the best player that I can be and work hard in each and every game and practice. If we are losing a game and the morale is getting low with my team mates, I try to encourage and inspire them to work to the best of their ability.

I am looking for a college where I can earn a degree in the sciences field. I would like to attend a college or university anywhere in the United States. I believe I would be an asset to any team because of my skills, dedication, and humble personality. I have no problems quickly adjusting to new teams and teammates. I have no problems following instructions and carrying through with obligations.  I will look forward to communicating with any schools that contact me.
