Hello, my name is Thong Phan, but my preferred first name is Tim. I am a sophomore at Alameda High School (Class of 2024) and I have been playing baseball for a very long time. Baseball has always been my favorite sport to watch and play, and it has taught me the importance of collaboration, teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication, and most importantly, resilience. These are all skills that I will not only take with me throughout high school, but also college and adulthood. I am currently playing for the Alameda Rascals, a travel baseball team based in Alameda, California. I also plan on playing for the baseball team at Alameda High School. I am primarily an outfielder, but I am also a second baseman. What sets me apart from other baseball players my age is that I recognize the importance of being a team player, and not personal glory. When I step into the batter's box, my goal for the at-bat is to get on-base by any means possible. By getting on-base, my chances of scoring runs for my team increases significantly. To me, this is far more important than the mentality of hitting a home run every at-bat. Defensively, I always make mental notes of the current scenario and think about what to do when the ball is put in play. At home, I work on hitting with my tee and net in my backyard.
Academically, I currently have a 3.92 unweighted GPA. Earning A's in all of my classes is always something that I will be shooting and working hard for. I have a very high interest in Biology, History, and Music class. I will be taking AP and college courses after my sophomore year. I am planning to pursue a Pre-Medicine, Pre-Law, or Sports Management degree in college. I am also a part of my school's Marching Band and Symphonic Band, playing as a saxophonist for both. Outside of school, I am a part of the Vietnamese Buddhist Youth Association, a Buddhist organization dedicated to educating people about Buddhist ethics and heavily emphasizes community service. As a result, I often find myself working at food banks, helping the homeless, tutoring younger kids, and helping out at local schools. Servicing my local community has helped me improve my character and maturity, which has translated to my ability to build great relationships with my teammates and coaches, and being a team player.
I understand that success is not going to come to me without dedication to the game and hard work. I am committed to growing as a baseball player by working on drills and practicing outside of team practices and games. I am determined to do whatever it takes to continue my passion for baseball throughout high school and college. I will always be a student of the game and excited to learn and improve my skills as a baseball player, through learning with coaches and working with my team. Thank you so much for your consideration and please feel free to contact me directly through my email, phone number, or social media handles. If you would like a specific video from me, please let me know and I can send it directly to you. I hope I will be a good candidate for what you need in a player.
