I believe I standout as a superior choice as a student athlete as I have always been a late bloomer which taught me at a young age to work hard, overcome obstacles and never give up. Growing up, I was always undersized so often I was overlooked. I had to perfect my pitching skills as I did not have the size to overpower. Now that I am 6'2" and still growing, I use all my skill as and my size, and a fresh arm (since I wasn't overused as a young player) to excel as a pitcher. I believe my potential still has not been reached and with my hard work and the right coaching the sky's the limit.
The same can be said for my academics, while my high test scores (1380 SATs and 5's on several AP exams) show my potential, my grades show that some work can be done to reach my potential. I believe my senior year grades and my rigorous schedule show that I am growing as a student. I was diagnosed with ADD late in my sophomore year and worked hard my junior year to improve my study habits. With my improved study habits, maturity and medication, I believe I will be closer to reaching my academic potential and I will be prepared to excel at the next level.
As an athlete, I pride myself as a student of the game. I watch baseball when I have the time, and focus on the pitch sequence and different approaches to attack different hitters. I have always been a great teammate, very willing to take on whatever role is needed from me as a starter, reliever, closer, or even filling in as a position player. When I'm not in the game I am fully engaged, cheering on my team, discussing pitching choices with other pitchers and coaches and helping anyway I can. I am often a leader on my team, but also happy to accept a role as a cog in a well-oiled machine.
My plan is to play baseball throughout my collegiate career while majoring in mathematics. I then plan to attend business school to help fulfill my ambition of becoming a business analyst.
