I am Cooper Matik, a 16 year old Catcher out of Wilton, CT. I currently attend Wilton High School and graduate in 2024. I have a strong academic record with a core GPA of over 3.5, and a total of 3.7, demonstrating a strong work ethic in the classroom and beyond the baseball field. On the field, I have played baseball since I was a kid and have developed into being named the starting Catcher for the Wilton High School Warriors - Varsity Baseball Team this year. I was previously a Captain of both my freshman and Junior Varsity squads during the past two years while maintaining grades and balancing extracurriculars.
Outside of Wilton High School Baseball, I have played competitively for the past six years. I currently represent “Baseball U CT”, an organization that specializes in building college prospects. In my first season with the club, I led my team in batting average, hits, extra-base hits, and slugging pct. I am looking forward to this coming summer and learning much more from the Baseball U family.
Beyond baseball, I am the lead alto saxophonist in both the high school’s marching band and concert band and have the title of “Alto Sax Section Leader” as voted by my peers. I also am on the board of a peer counseling and drug/alcohol prevention group called “Youth to Youth”. This national program is dedicated to helping students of all ages deal with the pressures of substances and how to talk out their needs. In addition, I am also a member and event coordinator for a “Diversity & Inclusion Club” at the high school, focusing on bringing school communities of all faiths and backgrounds together through shared experiences.
I have many experiences to lean on, almost all of which are in some leadership capacity. I understand that I will now be asked to be a leader on the field for my varsity teammates.
My goal, simply put - is to make an impact on a college baseball team. I will play wherever I can and I am thrilled to be on this journey for my next step in Baseball. I am not satisfied with where I am, and I am extremely eager to learn and grow in the game. In terms of an area of study, I am not settled, but will consider subjects like business and/or another interest like dentistry.
Right now, I’m focused on nailing the SATs, continuing with my grades, and performing this spring.
