You will not find me on Facebook. You will not find me on Instagram. You will not find me on Twitter, but you will find me in the gym, hitting in the cage, creating and practicing catching drills and studying. I choose to stay off social media because I would rather focus my time on my studies and baseball.
My name is Matthew Taormina and I am a 2019 graduate from Wilmington, Delaware. I attend Wilmington Friends School and was the starting varsity catcher as a freshman. Our 2017 team had a winning season and was 2nd in the division.
I am a hardworking student athlete who is driven by baseball. I work hard on and off the field through conditioning, practice, and playing as much as possible. Last season, I played for my high school varsity team, American Legion, and ASBA 2018 mid Atlantic Futures - (I am a 2019 grad) Fall 2017 I will be on the 2019 ASBA futures team with my graduation yr. I would describe myself as a driven person who works extremely hard at both school and baseball. I have always had a strong worth ethic and I never give up.
My most notable characteristics are that I’m a coachable, hard working player.
STATS
Baseball statistics are pop times of 1.95- 2.04 and I have thrown a 1.85. My 60 yard dash is a 7.1 seconds. My most recent batting average was .444 and OBP .655, for Post 18 during the American Legion 2017 season. ASBA Futures 2018 team I batted .393 with .625 OBP. Perfect Game 2017 WWBA in Georgia , June 30-July 6 , batted .429 with .600 on base percentage.
With catching comes great responsibility and I take those responsibilities seriously. Before the game, I shake the umpire’s hand and introduce myself and always have a good rapport with the umpire. I also take pride in framing pitches. While every batter has three or four at bats, I have 100 pitches where I can make a difference. My goal is to frame 8-10 pitches a game which can significantly alter pitch counts, hitter's count, and impact other teams strategy.
I won the Michael Acker Sportsmanship Award for my league of over 900 players.
I can also play 2nd/3rd and have played both at the legion level at age 16.
I can offer a team a hard working player, with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and leadership skills. I will always work for the good of the team. I will be on time to both school, practices, and games. I will be a leader through my actions and a team player. I will never stop working in school or baseball. I am never satisfied. I workout everyday and put my body through strenuous workouts in order to get the best results. I would like to be given an opportunity to make an impact on a college team and help them win a championship.
