Personal Statement
My name is Christopher Pendleton. I have lettered in both baseball and football each year in high school and have been recognized by the coaches in my city and in my region as a top player each year. I have been selected to All Region and All City teams each year in high school.
I am a foreign adoptee and was adopted at 12 months from an orphanage in Fryazino, Russia (which is in the Moscow region). My school, Savannah Country Day School, is an academically rigorous school. As an orphan and a foreign adoptee, I have struggled with language and I have had to overcome developmental challenges related to auditory and language processing and executive function. Luckily my school has an excellent SLD (Specific Learning Disabilities) program. Excluding my foreign language courses I carry a 3.3 to 3.4 grade point average as shown on my transcript. I will have finished my foreign language requirement this year and my goal is to have a 3.5 average my Senior year. I think this is a very attainable goal. My high ACT score reflects that I am very capable of college level work. I will retake the ACT in June and my goal is to score 30 or above. I have developed strong study habits and skills while working with our SLD program.
My primary position in baseball is first base, but I have also played third base and outfield. I’m very athletic and I’m considered as “ big bat, good hands” and being situationally aware during play. My position in football has been tight end and defensive end and I have been recognized in my city and my region for that sport as well.
My community and work involvement centers around lifesaving and first responder activity. I am a certified lifeguard and have worked for the past three summers at my community/club facilities. While not certified yet as an interior firefighter given my age, I have volunteered for non fire related activities and assisted my local fire department (Southside Fire Department) on open area fires. I hope to complete my training after I turn 18 in December.
My other school activities include three years of Orchestra in high school as I have played the viola since 2nd grade and the Robotics club.
