Personal Statement
My name is Tony Pluta, I am 5'8" and 175 pounds. I started playing T-ball at the age of six and from my first game I knew that baseball was what I wanted to do. I'm a catcher first, but really I love all aspects of the game.
I believe a student-athlete should be a student first, and my schoolwork is always my top priority. My goal is an advanced degree in aerospace engineering, and to that end I have pushed myself academically every year. I take a full load of honors and AP classes, and hold a 98% unweighted cumulative average which translates to a 4.86 weighted GPA.
Catching is my first love, and I've been blessed with fantastic coaches who pushed me to pursue advanced techniques at every facet of the position. I know that receiving is the most important job I can do, but I also love cutting down a runner at second. I've played every position on the field, but in recent years I've really come to enjoy pitching. I find that pitching makes me a better catcher, and catching makes me a better pitcher. My utility position is third base, and I make sure to spend time honing my skills there as well. I also work extremely hard in the weight room because I believe it's essential to becoming a better athlete.
As far as school choice, I'm open to anything. I of course would love to play at the D1 level, and I realize the effort it will take to get there. I will respect every opportunity that comes my way because my ultimate goal is to continue to play baseball at the highest level.
My faith and my family are fundamental aspects of my life. I'm a Life Scout in the process of completing the rank of Eagle Scout. Scouting is another way that I get to strengthen my leadership skills and be an active part of my community. My other hobbies include guitar, video games and every recreational sport I can find time for.
