Personal Statement
My name is Timmy Luckey, I am 5’9” 185 pounds. I have been playing baseball since I can remember, and I live to compete on the field. Throughout middle and high school, coaches have never really given me a true position, there have been many seasons where I found myself playing all nine positions at least one time. This past year, it has become clear to me and coaches that infield and pitcher are where I am best. So, in the off-season I trained to increase my agility, lateral movement, and first step, while also putting on 20 lbs. of muscle in the process. Most importantly, I have found a new confidence in my infield and pitching ability to play at a high level.
Regarding pitching, until this past year, I have always been a control/pitch-to-contact guy. After my training and one-on-one lessons with pitching coach Josh Kauten, my fastball has more life than ever before with arm side tail, and the confidence to throw my slider and change-up in any count. More importantly, during my high school season, a bulldog mentality became very present. I always competed, even with some of the better hitters in the conference, and never gave into a batter.
As for the offensive side of things, throughout my life I have found myself in the middle of the order, working gap to gap driving in runs. The biggest part of my approach as a hitter is to hunt fastballs early, and to not let the pitcher get ahead of me to where I am always protecting on a 2-strike count.
As for the academic side of things, I have maintained a 3.3 GPA throughout my 3 years of high school. During junior year, I took two honors classes, and in my senior year there are 4 honors classes and 1 AP class on my schedule. I want any college to know that I earned my GPA and took college level classes to prepare myself. I would like to be able to study data analytics or kinesiology as a major.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and good luck in any upcoming seasons.
