Kevin Wright '20 Recruiting Profile

From the age of four, I have been encouraged by my parents to compete in sports. Of all sports I played, basketball and baseball were my favorite. Things clicked for me at age 8 when I was played up a year to kid-pitch and ever since, baseball has been my passion. I’ve learned a lot about myself while playing baseball over the years. The most challenging lesson I learned playing baseball is how to control my competitive drive and maintain focus to move on to the next play. The ability to overcome and move forward has benefited me at work and in my academic life.

My high school experience started out rough academically because I was a lazy student. When I made varsity in my Sophomore year, something clicked and I realized that I will not be able to play ball without focusing on my school work. My goal for high school is to make good grades and to play baseball at the varsity level. My goal for college is to study Computer Science, to get my bachelor’s degree and to continue to play baseball. 

In addition to academic obstacles of my own doing, I’ve had moments during high school where I have had to fight for my positions. I’ve found it difficult to understand why my coaches played others instead of me, but I always wanted to prove to them that I should be on the field. I’ve been fortunate to play both second and third base over the years in addition to pitching. I believe I have a sharp baseball mind and a clear understanding of what it takes to make the next play.
