My first memory with baseball is attending one of my dad's practices. He was the high school coach for my older brother. The first time he brought me to practice I remember all of the players coming over to me, picking me up. Only to pass me on to the next player without setting me down. I remember going throughout the entire team, each one looking at me. Somehow those memories blossomed into my love for sports and baseball.
Dear Coaches,
My name is Shea. I am finishing up my junior year at Mt. Ararat High school in Topsham, Me. I am a three sport athlete, starting varsity 3 consecutive years (with the exception of my sophomore wrestling season canceled due to covid). I play football in the fall, running the ball on offense as a starting back and defending the ball on defense as a starting safety. My junior year I had over 1000 rushing yards and 75 tackles (Our high school competes in class A eight man football due to numbers). During the winter I wrestle, having placed in states and qualified for New Englands both my freshman and junior years. In the spring and summer I play baseball for my high school team and my travel team, the River Rats Elites. My primary position is catcher though I pitch, play infield and outfield as well. My goal is to play baseball at the collegiate level and beyond.
Outside of high school sports, I am passionate about weight training. I lift all year round, and recently competed in my first Strongman competition with my brother (Dash, 15) and my dad. My parents have been a positive influence on me as my dad played collegiate football and has competed at the national and world level in powerlifting and olympic weight lifting. My Mom has also competed at the national level in powerlifting and strongman. My older brother played collegiate baseball. Another hobby of mine is cooking. I am self sufficient in the kitchen and enjoy making large meals. I am mindful of what I eat and am extremely knowledgeable on how to properly care for and give nutrients to my body.
In my hopes of attempting to be a student athlete I push myself academically. My current GPA is a 3.25 (unweighted). I have challenged myself with mostly AP/honors classes and completed my first college class, “Energy in the Earth,” earning an A.
Although I like to think of myself as fairly well rounded physically and academically, I understand there is nothing more important for playing baseball at a collegiate level than the attitude and aggressive persistence a person can bring to the dugout. I have always been and will always be someone that makes every rep count, pays attention to every ball pitched during games, and hustles even when hustling is not necessary. I also bring a lot of energy and excitement to the dugout and field. I am a coachable athlete, and an extremely compassionate and positive person towards others. I am fast at moving on after mistakes and am never a person to throw my helmet after a strikeout.
Although I love all the sports I play, I’m most passionate about baseball and am excited for every season, every game, and every practice. For this reason I wish to bring my skills to the collegiate level and continue to improve and master baseball.
