Daniel Burns '22 Recruiting Profile

My Name is Daniel Burns  class of 2022 at Gerstell Academy in Finksburg MD . At the age of 5 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  I manage my health  on a daily basis , and have used diabetes as a  platform to excel in life. I have been selected for 2 consecutive terms to serve as a JDRF Youth Ambassador . As an ambassador , I have personally met with United States Congressmen and Senators to increase federal funding for diabetes research. During the fall I play varsity soccer and in the spring I play varsity  baseball for Gerstell Academy. I also serve as our Class President. I work hard in the classroom and the athletic field. I routinely arrive early or stay late for extra practice. During the off season I have organized my teammates for off season workouts.  My older brother participates with a wheelchair baseball and basketball team called the Bennett Blazers , I have volunteered  with the Bennett Blazers to coach and teach children with physical and cognitive impairments to play these sports.
